A miniature country designed for kids

Portugal dos Pequenitos is a theme park that opened in 1940, conceived by architect Cassiano Branco and physician Fernando Bissaia Barreto, featuring scaled-down replicas of monuments and traditional houses from every region of Portugal and its former colonies. The original idea was educational: teach children the country's geography and architecture by walking through a garden built entirely to their size.

What you can see inside

The route includes miniatures of the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos, the Torre de Belém, castles from northern Portugal, typical houses from the Algarve and Minho, plus pavilions dedicated to Brazil, Macau, and the former African and Asian colonies. There's also a children's museum area and interactive spaces added in more recent expansions.

Hours and prices

The park's hours change with the season: in low season (January-February and October-December) it opens from 10am to 5pm, and in high season (March-May and mid-September to October) until 7pm. Prices are around €8.95 for adults, €5.95 for children aged 3 to 13 and seniors over 65, with a family ticket (2 adults + 2 children) around €25.95; children under 2 get in free.

Visiting tips

It sits on the south bank of the Mondego, near Portugal Pequenito and a short walk from the historic center across the Ponte de Santa Clara. It's a very popular family stop, and it's worth setting aside 1.5 to 2.5 hours for the full visit, especially if you're bringing kids who'll want to explore each pavilion at their own pace.
